Turkish background Serhat graduated from the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) in 2000 in Directing, winning the 2000 Australian Screen Directors Association (now ADG) directing award.
His first 2 short films screened at over 40 local and international film festivals. His second film Bound has won numerous awards and prizes, including Best Film at the 2001 Sydney International Film Festival Dendy Awards and the Audience Award at the New York University International Student Film Festival. . He has a background in drama, theatre, acting and has directed and produced plays before moving to film.
Serhat was runner up of the European Union Film Award, with acceptance into the Berlinale Talent Campus, part of the 2003 Berlin International Film Festival.
His first feature film script Cedar Boys was selected for the inaugural Australian Film Commission (AFC) IndiVision program, and is currently in production. Starring Rachael Taylor, Cedar Boys is a drama that delves into the lives of Sydney's Lebanese community. |
